WCQI 2013 Indianapolis – Mission Accomplished!

Each year, the Quality Management Division (QMD) plans two major activities. One event is the annual QMD conference, or joint conference with one or more divisions. The second event in the yearly QMD plan is WCQI. The 2013 WCQI in Anaheim was a huge success. A new QMD booth, wheel of quality game, technical committee process overview, and operational plans were shared with attendees. The highly successful results of 2012 set a very lofty goal for WCQI Indianapolis 2013.
We did it!
The energy and commitment of the QMD leadership team was even more intense than 2012. Ellen Quinn and the marketing team, planned for more prizes related to answering the wheel of quality questions correctly. The 2013 revised body of knowledge for the Certified Manager of Quality Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) was the basis of these questions. Jerry Rice, the vice chair of operations, administers the CMQ/OE content. He and his team developed many challenging questions for those testing their knowledge. The popularity of the wheel of quality exceeded our expectations and we were quickly looking to replenish our supply of prizes.
This year’s booth activities included Claud Russey, vice chair technical committees, provided the new chair of the QMD Technical Committee related to standards, Denise Robitalle the opportunity to answer questions and provide information related to the goals this new technical committee has established. For those regular readers of the popular Coaches Corner article in the quarterly Quality Management Forum, J.R. McGee hosted a live version of Coaches Corner. Many attendees took advantage of this opportunity to engage in a face to face conversion with J.R.
Global membership in QMD continues to grow. A new banner for QMD’s participation in global events was unveiled. Prashant Hoskote, chair of the Organizational Excellence Technical Committee delivered a case study to a standing room only crowd during a Conference Within a Conference session. Prashant is the first QMD leadership team member from outside of North America. First time conference attendees, who were also QMD members from Nigeria introduced themselves to us. These are only two examples of the expanding interest in QMD from the global Quality community.
The effectiveness of the QMD planning and active participation of member leaders make events such as WCQI Indianapolis a successful event. We, the leadership team, want our members to know that we are working very diligently to listen to their needs and provide products and services to meet these needs.
I want to send a special thanks to all QMD leadership team members, especially Heather McCain who plans the events for WCQI, the joint division conference, and QMD’s involvement in regional events. There is not enough space on this web page to acknowledge all of those who have contributed their time to make events like these possible.
Our next major event is the joint conference with the Audit Division and Design and Construction Division in Tucson, October 10 and 11. For those of you who missed WCQI, Tucson will be another opportunity to learn more about how QMD is listening to the voice of the customer. Don’t forget to mark your calendar for WCQI Dallas, May 2014.
